Reenactments: Break the Behavior Patterns That Keep You Stuck in Trauma, Stress, and Everyday Life is a guide that has the potential to help a wide range of people to change their life. This book has wide appeal and is broadly applicable across people from all health and/or mental health statuses, lifestyles, stages of adulthood, and religious, racial and/or cultural backgrounds. The sample list of reenactment themes is very relatable; surely readers will recognize themselves in at least some of them. Using a wide range of case examples, they walk us through the benefits and promotion of self-awareness, the processes for finding patterns in our reactions and behaviours, encouragements to pull out key themes from these patterns, and then urging the reader to, with intention, do something differently from their usual pattern.
Drs. Iezzi and Duckworth mix theory, case examples, and exercises to keep things very stimulating for a wide range of readers. Drs. Iezzi and Duckworth ambitiously, concisely, and effectively provide a scientifically grounded rationale for their theory and recommendations, and in the process offer excellent overviews of several important areas of psychology and human physiology, which may be especially appealing to the more academic or academically curious reader. The tools to generate self-awareness and to break reenactments are presented in ways that make them easy to understand and tempting to try.
As a practitioner who has witnessed Dr. Iezzi engaging in reenactments work in a group context, the value of the reenactments work presented in this helpful, introductory book cannot be overstated. I look forward to a companion workbook.
